Christina Aguilera is Ready to Fight on The Voice

http://img2.timeinc.net/people/i/2011/news/110502/christina-aguilera-440.jpg

The Voice attracted 11.8 million in a strong debut last week as Christina Aguilera, Maroon 5's Adam Levine, Cee Lo Green and Blake Shelton started picking singers in a blind audition to form teams of eight.

"We definitely fight for certain contestants," Aguilera said recently. "If [we] turn our chairs around at the same time, then we become on the hot seat. And there has been some pretty heated debates about who gets the person on their team. It's pretty addicting thus far!"

After some nail-biting auditions landed each coach with three singers, the four complete their teams Tuesday night.

As executive producer Mark Burnett tells PEOPLE, "They are all competitive and this show is like the singing version of the NBA Draft if you gave the players the power to choose their teams. Once Christina, Cee Lo, Adam or Blake press that button and turn their chair to indicate, 'Hey, I want you on my team,' but more than one turns around, the power shifts to the singer."

Next week, the coaches will tap their friends to help prep their teams for vocal battles.

Aguilera will bring aboard singer-songwriter Sia Furler; Green will consult with singer Monica; Shelton will have his pal Reba McEntire; and Levine will enlist Maroon 5's music director, Adam Blackstone. After four weeks of battles, the teams will then vie live for public votes.

Christina Aguilera: Healing After A Hard Time

http://img2.timeinc.net/people/i/2011/news/110328/christina-aguilera-240.jpgChristina Aguilera has a very important lesson to teach the contestants she'll be coaching on The Voice. And it has nothing to do with singing.

"The most important thing for me to do is talk about the ups and downs of my career and, in light of the past year, the things that happen on stage," says the singer, who's suffered a series of personal and professional missteps in 2011, including flubbing the lyrics to the National Anthem at the Super Bowl.

"At the end of the day, you can prove to yourself that you are strong enough to get back up on that stage," she told reporters Monday while promoting the new NBC show, which premieres April 26.

"I can laugh about my hiccups because I'm getting through it. I'm healing after a really hard time in my life. I've gone through a really tough divorce – it's an uprooting time."

All the more reason, she says, to throw herself into work. The upcoming singing competition series came at "the perfect time in my life," she says. "I'm revealing a lot on this show, and a side of myself that I think many people have never seen before."

So what can fans expect from the Grammy winner in her new reality TV role?

"We have three irreverent naughty boys and Christina is the rock," says co-executive producer Mark Burnett of Aguilera's fellow coaches, Blake Shelton, Cee Lo Green and Adam Levine. "She is the voice of reason among those naughty boys.

"I've taken on the momma role," says the singer (and real-life mom to son Max, 3, with ex husband Jordan Bratman) of her place on the coaching panel.

Christina Aguilera: “Huge Supporter” of Britney

http://img2.timeinc.net/people/i/2008/news/081117/aguilera.jpg

While promoting her new NBC show The Voice with producer Mark Burnett, judge Christina Aguilera took time out to say nice things about fellow pop star and old friend Britney Spears.

When asked about sending Britney a congratulatory tweet about her her new CD, Christina said, “You know what I haven’t heard the whole thing in it’s entirety (Femme Fatale). I’ve been really hard at work on this show. I haven’t had quite the chance to go through the whole thing.”

“But I am a huge supporter of her in light of the fact that both of our careers started off together and are still going and going strong,” she explained. “I just think at this point in the game it’s extremely important to be supportive of fellow artists and especially females who get pitted against each other and torn apart. As an old friend of mine from the Mickey Mouse Club, I think it’s important at this stage in the game to show my support.”

Christina Aguilera To Coach Talent On The Voice

http://img2.timeinc.net/people/i/2010/features/insider/101108/christina-aguilera-240.jpgChristina Aguilera is putting that voice to good use.

The Grammy winner has just been named as a musician coach on NBC's new musical competition series The Voice, which premiers April 26.

"I am so excited to be part of such a wonderful project that celebrates music and the talent behind it," Aguilera, who joins coaches Cee Lo Green and Maroon 5's Adam Levine, said of the role. "To be given the opportunity to help shape new artists' careers and mentor them to see their dreams come to fruition is a task I welcome with open arms."

NBC executives say the singer's talent was what caught their eye. "Christina has a once in a generation talent – her voice is phenomenally distinctive and instantly recognizable," Paul Telegdy, Executive Vice President of Alternative Programming at NBC and Universal Media Studios said of the appointment. "Her journey as an artist, who started so young in the music business, will be an inspiration to the talent she coaches on the show."

The news comes on the heels of a challenging week for the singer. She was jailed by police for public intoxication early Tuesday morning before later being released, while her boyfriend, Matt Rutler, was also arrested for investigation of DUI.
