Ryan Phillippe's ex/alleged baby mama has lawyered up ... and a legal battle is now brewing ... TMZ has learned.

Alexis Knapp -- the model/actress who claims to be carrying Ryan's baby -- has hired Mark Vincent Kaplan.

Ryan has said he'll take a DNA test once the baby is born and support the child if it's his, but Alexis is not satisfied.

And here's a fun fact. Kaplan repped K-Fed in his divorce/custody battle with Britney Spears.

Ryan Phillippe's Ex Not Asking Him for 'Help'

Ryan Phillippe's ex-girlfriend, Alexis Knapp, is pregnant – but she's not pressuring the actor to be involved with her unborn child.

"She has never asked Ryan for any help, nor does she expect it," a rep for Knapp tells PEOPLE.

According to a source, Knapp, who briefly dated Phillippe last summer, has told friends that she's expecting the actor's child in June.

Another source says that Phillippe, 36, is awaiting the results of a paternity test to determine if he's indeed the baby's father.

"Alexis has maintained her silence and will continue to do so," her rep adds. "Any 'source' claiming to have been her or her camp up to this point is false."

Adds the rep: "She continues to appreciate the love and support of her family and friends."

Amanda Seyfried Stands By BF Ryan Phillippe

Despite reports Ryan Phillippe is expecting his third child with ex-girlfriend Alexis Knapp, the hunky actor and his girl, Amanda Seyfried, looked happy and in love while hiking in the Hollywood Hills.

An X17 photographer who spotted the lovebirds tells us:

"Ryan and Amanda looked totally in love. Amanda definitely isn't giving up on Ryan despite the fact he may have gotten his ex-girlfriend pregnant. It's almost as if she wanted to show the world -- I still love Ryan, no matter what!"

Sounds like this is the real deal for these two.

Ryan has agreed to pay child support to ex-girlfriend Alexis Knapp, if a paternity test he's agreed to take proves he is the father. Knapp claims she hasn't been intimate with anyone since her relationship with Phillippe.

When pregnant actress Alexis Knapp announced that she was carrying Ryan Phillippe's child at a Hollywood bash in mid-February, it was a complete shock to everyone -- including the alleged dad-to-be!

A source tells the new Us Weekly that Phillippe (who wasn't present at the bash) was blindsided when he heard second-hand about Knapp's very public bombshell. "Alexis hadn't even talked to Ryan before that party," a second source says.

As Us Magazine first reported on Monday, the Lincoln Lawyer actor, 36, "doesn't know if he's the father," the first source says, but plans to take a paternity test.

Ryan Phillippe Awaiting Pregnant Ex's Paternity

As Ryan Phillippe awaits the results of a paternity test to determine if he is the father of ex-girlfriend Alexis Knapp's unborn baby, Knapp herself is happily preparing for the birth, sources tell PEOPLE.

"She's doing really well, handling everything and just taking it day by day," a source says of the actress, who dated Phillippe last summer and is believed to be due in June. "She's excited for the baby!"

As for Phillippe, he is keeping a low profile until test results come back, adds another source.

"In all likelihood, Ryan's not doing or saying anything publicly until there's a paternity test that proves he's the father," says a source close to the actor.

And although the pregnancy came as a surprise to the public, "Ryan has known from the very beginning," adds the first source. "As soon as she found out, she told him. She found out she was pregnant while she was filming [her upcoming movie] So Undercover."

Phillippe, 36, who has two children with ex-wife Reese Witherspoon 34, has moved on romantically, and was spotted recently cozying up to Amanda Seyfried after the premiere for her movie Red Riding Hood, as well as at the opening of his The Lincoln Lawyer last week.

Is Ryan Phillippe Going To Be A Dad Again?

Ryan Phillippe might have to prep for round three of Daddy Duty!

The actor, 36, who already has two kids with ex-wife Reese Witherspoon, may become a father again -- so says his ex, pregnant model-actress Alexis Knapp, who has claimed she's carrying his baby. (Knapp recently stepped out in Hollywood, bearing an unmistakable baby bump.)

"She's in the second trimester," a source close to Knapp confirms to Us Magazine of Knapp, who next stars in the film Project X (out this Thanksgiving) plus the Miley Cyrus flick So Undercover. (A rep could not be reached for comment.)

First-time mom Knapp dated Phillippe for several months on and off last year before he ended the relationship in September. "She has been telling people he is the father," explains another source to Us. Counters the Knapp source: "She's not commenting on who the father is."

"Ryan doesn't know if he is the dad," adds the second source of the Lincoln Lawyer actor. "If he is, he will take full responsibility for the child."

Explains a third insider of Phillippe and Knapp: "He and Alexis were actually together for a while...It was pretty serious."

"He's a good guy," adds the insider. "He loves being a dad and takes being a dad really seriously."

His kids with Witherspoon, 34, are Ava, 11, and Deacon, 7.

"If this kid is his," the insider says, "He will do the right thing. He takes his responsibility seriously."

Phillippe's current squeeze is Amanda Seyfried -- although the duo have been tight-lipped about their romance. "I'm dating," said Phillippe on Friday's Ellen DeGeneres Show. "Not nearly as voracious as the magazines like to make out, [but] I am dating."
